Resume Writing

Traditionally, a Microsoft word is used to prepare a detailed resume for submission to the hiring managers for review. It would depend on how impressed the hiring or resume screening person is with the resume that you would receive an interview call and then it is in your hands to impress the hiring manager that you are the best person for the job. As a rule of thumb, one to two and for very experience persons no more than 3 pages are the recommended length of the resume.

If you are just graduating or an entry level candidate, the struggle is what put on your resume that potential employer is impressed. In such cases, even a one page is a long resume, on the other hand if you are an experienced person, it is the opposite. Experienced workers usually battle with keeping their resume within 2-3 pages’ limit without leaving anything out. In their efforts to maintain brevity, they struggle with what to leave out without showing gaps in their resume. With the rise of social media to large extent the length limitations have been lifted and you can have a linkedin resume if you wish, however, in such cases, you must go through two stages of screening, first thing screening person will look at is your summary before diving deep into resume to assess if you are a suitable candidate for the job or not.

In the storm of resumes in response to a job advertise something that is unique attracts the attention. Most people are visual, and thus a visual object that is unique can attract the attention of the person screening. That’s why more and more candidates are adopting to prepare visual resumes. Visual resumes can take any shape and form, it could be pictorial resume, a PowerPoint presentation, a video resume, an audio resume or a combination of all the above. A suitably prepared visual resume combing a suitable mix of pictorial, video, audio and PowerPoint presentation can make you stand out of the crowd.
